Sulaymān — The Duʿāʾ of the Prophets

Sulaymān عليه السلام

سليمان

Son of Dāwūd. Given understanding of the speech of birds and authority over the wind and the jinn, and a kingdom he asked would belong to no one after him.

What he faced

Being given everything, and having to stay grateful for it.

27:19

فَتَبَسَّمَ ضَاحِكًۭا مِّن قَوْلِهَا وَقَالَ رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِىٓ أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَىَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَٰلِدَىَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَٰلِحًۭا تَرْضَىٰهُ وَأَدْخِلْنِى بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِى عِبَادِكَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

Rabbi ʾawziʿnī ʾan ʾashkura niʿmataka allatī ʾanʿamta ʿalayya wa-ʿalā wālidayya wa-ʾan ʾaʿmala ṣāliḥan tarḍāhu wa-ʾadkhilnī biraḥmatika fī ʿibādika aṣ-ṣāliḥīna

English · Marmaduke Pickthall And (Solomon) smiled, laughing at her speech, and said: My Lord, arouse me to be thankful for Thy favour wherewith Thou hast favoured me and my parents, and to do good that shall be pleasing unto Thee, and include me in (the number of) Thy righteous slaves.

Türkçe · Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır (Süleyman) onun sözüne gülümseyerek dedi ki: "Ey Rabbim! Bana ve ana babama verdiğin nimete şükretmemi ve hoşnut olacağın iyi iş yapmamı gönlüme getir. Rahmetinle, beni iyi kulların arasına kat."

In the Qur’an (27:19), Sulaiman asks to be grateful and to do deeds pleasing to Allah.

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَهَبْ لِى مُلْكًۭا لَّا يَنۢبَغِى لِأَحَدٍۢ مِّنۢ بَعْدِىٓ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْوَهَّابُ

Rabbi ighfir lī wa-hab lī mulkan lā yanbaghī liʾaḥadin min baʿdī ʾinnaka ʾanta al-wahhābu

English · Marmaduke Pickthall He said: My Lord! Forgive me and bestow on me sovereignty such as shall not belong to any after me. Lo! Thou art the Bestower.

Türkçe · Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır Süleyman: "Ey Rabbim! Beni bağışla ve bana öyle bir mülk ihsan et ki, ardımdan hiç kimseye yaraşmasın. Şüphesiz, bütün dilekleri veren sensin." dedi.

In the Qur’an (38:35), Sulaiman asks forgiveness and a unique kingdom by Allah’s gift.
