The Duʿāʾ of the Prophets

The Prophets

Yūnus عليه السلام

يونس

Left his people in anger before he was permitted to, was swallowed by the fish, and called out from inside the darknesses. Returned to a people who then believed.

Being entirely alone, in the dark, in a situation he had walked into himself.

Lā ʾilāha ʾillā ʾanta subḥānaka ʾinnī kuntu mina aẓ-ẓālimīna

English · Marmaduke Pickthall And (mention) Dhu'n-Nun, when he went off in anger and deemed that We had no power over him, but he cried out in the darkness, saying: There is no Allah save Thee. Be Thou Glorified! Lo! I have been a wrong-doer.
Türkçe · Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır Zünnun'u (balık sahibi Yunus'u) da hatırla. Hani o, öfkelenerek gitmişti de, bizim kendisini hiçbir zaman sıkıştırmayacağımızı sanmıştı. Fakat sonunda karanlıklar içinde: "Senden başka ilâh yoktur, sen münezzehsin, Şüphesiz ben haksızlık edenlerden oldum" diye seslenmişti.

In the Qur’an (21:87), Yunus calls upon Allah, affirming tawhid and admitting his wrongdoing.
